Are We There Yet? vol. 228
If you watch the news regularly, you might be dismayed because it seems like nothing good is ever reported. Wars, political turmoil, immigration issues, and crime dominate the reporting. This week, I heard about a young man from Abidjan in the Cote d’Ivoire, and his story was very inspiring.
Tiekoura Ouattara is a 2022 graduate from the African Leadership Academy and this year’s recipient of the W. Paatii Ofusu-Amaah Award for Applied Science and Technology. The African Leadership Academy website promotes that the Academy “seeks to transform Africa by developing a powerful network of young leaders who are ready to accelerate the continent’s growth.”
In a letter, Mr. Ouattara stated that the award he received is “more than just an award to me; it’s a call to action. It serves as a constant reminder that the knowledge I’m acquiring in science and technology must be used to create a significant impact. After all, knowledge without application holds little meaning.”
He further noted about his time at the ALA that “It ignited my passion for Africa’s future and brought out the leader within me. I realized that leadership is not about titles; it’s about the positive impact that you can make on your community.”
Stories like Tiekoura’s inspire me and provide hope for our future and the way that we will address the problems and challenges that we face globally, and it is exciting to see young people from all walks of life taking up these challenges with passion.
