It’s the time of year when we hear a lot of commencement addresses. I enjoy these speeches because, typically, the focus is not on personal or career success, but on leading meaningful and purpose-filled lives. It’s also about enjoying the journey on which the graduates are embarking.
On Tuesday my daughter Isabel graduated from high school. It was a beautiful ceremony and the end of a four-year period of hard work for her and her classmates. She now begins the next leg of her journey and heads to university later this summer.
This past weekend, I was at Bethany Beach and realized that the garbage men hadn’t picked up our garbage. However, they seemed to have picked up everyone else’s. It was frustrating, but then I saw the trash company’s supervisor slowly drive down our street.
My boys have recently taken up the sport of golf. My wife, Jen, and I are very happy seeing them practicing together in our backyard. But they are teenagers, after all. The other day, one of them was swinging a club wildly to make our dog bark when he somehow let go of the club.
Some of you may know the story of Wrexham AFC, a football club in Wales purchased by Canadian actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. Wrexham played in the lowest division of English football.
I was saddened to learn that the Rabbi Harold Kushner died on April 26th at the age of 88. Rabbi Kushner is best known for his best-selling book, When Bad Things Happen to Good People.
