A few weeks ago, we were at the beach for a family reunion of sorts with my brother-in-law’s family and my in-laws. The beach is always a place where we can relax and unwind a bit. The smell of the ocean and the consistent pounding of the waves has a calming effect.
In Lulu Miller’s memoir “Why Fish Don’t Exist”, she toggles between scenes from her own life and struggles and the history of David Starr Jordan, a world-famous fish researcher and founding president of Stanford University. Ms. Miller was drawn to Professor Jordan because of his persistence and sense of purpose in the face of tragedy or what she refers to as chaos.
Like many of you, I have been watching some of the Olympics this year. The lack of crowds and stories about the new relationships forged by athletes from different countries have made it less interesting for me but I still enjoy watching the competition.
One of the joys of coming out of the pandemic is that we all get to dine out again. At times, though, especially on the Open Table app, I’m overwhelmed by the number of restaurant choices as well as the number of menu options at each restaurant.
Last night, my wife and I joined a group of friends for a concert at Wolf Trap. For those of you not familiar with the DC area, Wolf Trap is formally known as Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts. It is located on 130 acres in Fairfax County, Virginia and we had lawn seats for the performance by Amos Lee.
After reading one of my weekly musings, one of our clients sent me the book, Dedicated, written by her son, Pete Davis. Pete co-founded the Democracy Policy Network and also co-founded Getaway, a company that provides simple, unplugged escapes to tiny cabins outside of major cities. I read his book this week and was struck by a number of inspiring and intriguing thoughts that I want to share.
