After attending a conference in Colorado, a group of my colleagues and I were discussing the takeaways. Although the conference had a lot of useful, highly technical sessions, I joked that my main takeaway was that the conference stopped serving coffee at 8am.
I was at a conference this week, and during one of the breaks, a group of us were chatting. The discussion somehow turned to billionaires and all they have—the real estate, yachts, planes, spaceships, power, etc. A woman sitting with us jumped in and said, “You know what they don’t have?”
If you haven’t yet seen American Fiction, I highly recommend it. In one scene, Jeffrey Wright’s character, Thelonious “Monk” Ellison is talking to his girlfriend, Coraline, played by Erika Anderson. Coraline is a public defender, and Monk is just getting to know her. He asks how she feels about defending guilty people.
The other day, while walking the dog, my son asked about the best piece of advice I had ever been given. I think he expected me to think about it for a while and get back to him, but a thought immediately popped into my mind.
My general rule is to stay away from politics when I write this blog each week. But there is a proposed policy upon which both candidates agree, so I think I can address it. The issue is “no tax on tips.” The idea seems very appealing emotionally.
